ABSTRACT

@#AIM: To investigate the effect of IOP of emmetropes and different types of myopia induced by accommodation.<p>METHODS: A descriptive study. A total of 88 volunteers were included from January to April 2018. Among them, 28(28 eyes)were in the emmetropia group, 60(60 eyes)were in the myopia group, and the myopia group was divided into stable myopia group(myopia progression is less than or equal to 0.50D per year in the past two years)and progressive myopia group(myopia progression is greater than 0.50D per year in the past two years)according to the refractive stability. Meanwhile, the myopia group was also divided into three groups according to the degree of myopia: low myopia group(-0.5D≤SE<-3D), moderate myopia group(-3D≤SE<-6D)and high myopia group(SE≥-6D). A rebound tonometer was used to measure the IOPs of all subjects while relaxed(0D)and accommodated(3D). Statistical analysis was performed on IOPs before and after accommodate.<p>RESULTS: There was no significant difference in IOPs among emmetropia group(16.54±2.12mmHg), stable myopia group(17.15±2.23mmHg)and progressive myopia group(16.88±2.37mmHg)when relaxed(<i>P</i>>0.05), so did the emmetropia group, low myopia group(16.41±2.21mmHg), moderate myopia group(17.11±2.27mmHg)and high myopia group(17.60±2.35mmHg)(<i>P</i>>0.05). The IOPs of progressive myopia group and high myopia group were significantly increased with 3D accommodation(<i>P</i><0.05). However, the IOPs did not drop significantly in stable myopia group, low myopia group and moderate myopia group(<i>P</i>>0.05).<p>CONCLUSION: Accommodation could increase the IOPs of progressing myopes and high myopes, and it suggested that the increase of IOP was related to the progression of adult myopia.

ABSTRACT

Background@#The 47,XYY syndrome could result in fertility problems. However, seldom studies reported comprehensive researches on the embryonic development and pregnancy outcomes of these patients. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical outcomes of nonmosaic 47,XYY patients performed with fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) and preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) treatment.@*Methods@#This was a retrospective study. Between January 2012 and May 2017, 51 infertile males with nonmosaic 47,XYY syndrome underwent FISH-PGD were included in the study. According to sex chromosomal FISH results, embryos were classified as normal signal, no nuclei fixed, no signal in fixed nuclei, suspensive signal, and abnormal signal groups, respectively. The incidence of each group, the fixation rate, and hybridization rate were calculated. Embryonic development and pregnancy outcomes were also analyzed. The measurement data were analyzed with Student's t-test. The comparison of categorical data was analyzed with the Chi-square test and Fisher's exact test when expected cell count was 0.05), and were significantly lower than the normal signal group (66.4%, P < 0.001). The clinical pregnancy rates of fresh and frozen embryos transferred cycles were 70.6% and 85.7%, respectively.@*Conclusions@#Among embryos with a clear diagnosis of sex chromosome, about one-fifth showed abnormal signals. Embryos with two sex chromosomal signals are more likely to develop into good-quality ones. The application of the PGD by FISH may help to improve the clinical outcome s.

ABSTRACT

AIM:To evaluate the feasibility and advantages of two-port 27-gauge pars plana vitrectomy for treatment of recurrent retinal detachment in silicone oil dwelling eyes.METHODS:A retrospective study.Two-port 27-gauge pars plana vitrectomy was performed in 7 eyes with recurrent retinal detachment without remove of silicone oil.Proliferative membrane peeling, endolaser treatment, and drainage of subretinal fluid were performed.Scleral bulking was performed if necessary.RESULTS:Sucessful retina re-attachment was accomplishied in all eyes.No visually significant intraoperative complication occurred. All eyes expericend quick recoveray of visual acuity and mild postoperative irritation. One eye developed a recurrent inferior retinal detchment in 20d after the surgery using non-remove technique, and recovered after conventional silicone oil removal and retinal reattachment surgery.CONCLUSION:Two-port 27-gauge pars plana vitrectomy is an efficacious (and potentially cost-efficient) method to treat early stage recurrent retinal detachment in silicone oil dwelling eyes.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To explore the aesthetic result of dense-packing single-hair grafting for eyelash.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Twenty-six female cases were treated with the donor sites at the occipital safe area. The single-hair grafts were made with the hair of 4cm in length. The grafts were transplanted to the upper lid margin with needle technique, 30-40 grafts at each side.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The hair grafts survived very well with good growth direction. It looked even better when it had a permanent wave or the mascara was applied. The survival rate of hair grafts was more than 95%.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>It is feasible to improve the shorter and thinner eyelash by dense-packing single-hair grafts.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the indication and results of three methods for total ear reconstruction.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>960 cases of total ear defect were treated with skin expansion and autogenous rib cartilage framework (n = 786), or skin expansion and Medpor framework (n = 150), or ear prosthesis (n = 24). The indication and results of the three methods were analysed.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Good cosmetic results were achieved with all three methods. Autogenous rib cartilage framework was suitable for patients under 30 years old with unaffected skin at mastoid region. Medpor framework was good for grown-up, especially over 30 years old, or with mild infection at mastoid region. Patients with severe skin injury at mastoid region or unwilling to accept surgery should choose ear prosthesis.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>Satisfactory results can be achieved with suitable methods for total ear reconstruction.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To introduce a new technique for the treatment of helical keloid.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>The procedure consisted of two steps. In the first step, a kidney-shaped expander of 50 ml was placed subcutaneously in the retroauricular area. Routine inflation with normal saline followed. In the second step, about two months afterwards, the expander was taken out and the helical keloid was excised. The expanded flap was advanced to cover the wound.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The operation has been performed on 12 patients of 16 sites of helical keloid since 2000. Postoperative follow-up from 3 months to 2 years revealed satisfactory results. The reconstructed ear maintained a good contour.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The technique creates a retroauricular flap rich in blood supply, which can be used to close the defect left by helical keloid excision. It provides a good treatment for the helical keloid replaced with normal skin from the mastoid region.</p>
